You Are Not Alone

When Disaster Strikes

When a disaster strikes, it’s important to stay calm and act quickly to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. Here are some steps you can take to prepare for and respond to a disaster:

  1. Create an emergency plan: Identify potential evacuation routes, establish a designated meeting place for family members, and prepare an emergency kit with supplies like food, water, and first-aid supplies.
  2. Stay informed: Keep up to date with local news and weather reports, and follow any emergency alerts or evacuation orders issued by authorities.
  3. Secure your property: Secure loose outdoor items, turn off utilities if instructed to do so, and lock windows and doors.
  4. Take shelter: Seek refuge in a safe location, such as an interior room on the lowest floor of a building or a designated storm shelter.
  5. Evacuate if necessary: If instructed to evacuate, do so immediately, taking your emergency kit and any important documents with you.
  6. Check on loved ones: If possible, check in with family and friends to ensure their safety and well-being.
  7. Follow post-disaster guidelines: After a disaster, listen to local authorities for instructions on how to proceed, and avoid entering damaged buildings until they have been declared safe.

By following these steps, you can increase your chances of staying safe during a disaster. However, it’s important to remember that each disaster is unique, so it’s crucial to remain flexible and adapt to changing circumstances.
